Brand Profile

Colonel is a Brussels-based restaurant concept dedicated to the terroir of prime-cut beef, an institution built around the conviction that the quality of the raw material is the argument, and the kitchen's role is to honor rather than obscure it. Located in the Saint-Gilles district, Colonel entered a market where "steakhouse" signified either rustic informality or corporate formula, and navigated a distinct path between the two. The restaurant's defining gesture, a central butcher's counter where guests select their cut by breed and aging process, structured the entire dining experience around the primacy of the product, establishing a ritual that differentiated the concept as clearly as its positioning.

Design Strategy & Execution

The visual identity for Colonel was structured around an act of historical translation, the challenge of connecting a military rank name to the language of provenance, craft, and considered gastronomy without descending into pastiche. The studio resolved this through a dual-coded emblematic system: a bugle, an instrument belonging simultaneously to military ceremony and to hunting tradition, was developed as the identity's primary mark, anchoring the brand at the precise intersection of both registers. A custom logotype and a distinct typographic system were constructed to reinforce the tone: formal without pomposity, assertive without aggression. The identity navigated the restaurant's conceptual territory with precision, producing a visual architecture that could carry its premium positioning across menus, signage, and communications with equal authority.
