XYZ = RGB

Artwork · Installation · 2009

An interactive installation that maps physical space to colour space. Two webcams triangulate the position of a fish swimming inside a cubic aquarium, converting its real-time XYZ coordinates into an RGB value that floods a monitor mounted above the tank.

As the fish moves left or right the hue shifts; as it rises or sinks the brightness changes; as it swims toward or away from the glass the saturation responds. The result is an unpredictable, living colour picker, a creature navigating three dimensions that happen to correspond exactly to the three channels of digital colour.
